Requirements for a Diploma
To receive a high school diploma from the District, a student must successfully complete the required number of credits and pass a statewide exit-level exam. The grade 11 exit-level test, required for students in grade 11 starting in the 2003-2004 school year and thereafter, covers English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies and requires knowledge of Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, Integrated Chemistry and Physics (IPC), English III, and early American and Untied States History. Students must have paid all debts incurred to Northside before graduation day.
Graduation Programs
The District offers the graduation programs listed below. Since the 2007-2008 school year, all students entering grade 9 are required to enroll in the Recommended High School Program or Distinguished Achievement Program. These students must also complete the 4x4 plan set by the state of Texas. Permission to enroll in the Distinguished Achievement Program of graduation must be approved by the principal. Permission to enroll in the Minimum Graduation Program shall be granted only as described in the exception below (see policy EIF).
- Minimum Graduation Plan 22 Credits
- Recommended High School Program 26 Credits
- Distinguished Achievement Program 26 Credits
Permission to complete the Minimum Graduation Plan shall be granted only if an agreement is reached among:
- The student;
- The student’s parent or person standing in parental relation; and
- The counselor and principal.
