Northside ISD Athletic Travel Policy
Effective Beginning with the 2026–2027 School Year
The safety and well-being of our student-athletes is our highest priority. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Northside ISD will implement the following travel procedures for all athletic teams traveling to out-of-town contests.
Travel to Away Events
- All student-athletes must travel to away contests on the team bus departing from Northside ISD.
- Students will not be permitted to check out of school early to drive their personal vehicles to the Four-Way or any other location to meet the team bus.
- Students will not be permitted to meet the team bus at any point along the travel route.
- All athletes must load the bus at Northside ISD and travel with their teammates and coaches for the entire trip to the event.
Returning from Away Events
- Parents or legal guardians may continue to check out their child after the contest in accordance with existing district procedures.
- If special circumstances require a student to be released at a location other than the school following an away contest, a parent or legal guardian must be physically present at the approved location to sign the student out with the coach.
Purpose of This Policy
This change has been made to enhance the safety and accountability of our student-athletes. Meeting the team bus at locations such as the Four-Way presents several uncontrollable safety concerns and makes it difficult for coaches and staff to adequately supervise students. By having all athletes travel together from Northside ISD, we can provide a safer, more consistent, and better-supervised travel experience for everyone involved.
We appreciate the support and understanding of our students and families as we implement this important safety measure.
